The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has officially announced a province-wide holiday for all government and private schools on the occasion of Chehlum (20 Safar 1448 AH). The decision applies to educational institutions operating under the department’s administrative control across Sindh.
According to an official notification, the holiday has been approved in line with the recommendations of the Steering Committee during its meeting held earlier this year. The notification has been circulated to ensure timely implementation in all districts.
The school closure will be observed by public schools, private schools, and other educational institutions managed by the School Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh. Students, teachers, and administrative staff will remain off duty on the notified day.
The department has instructed District Education Officers (DEOs), education authorities, and school administrations to strictly follow the notification. Officials have also been directed to share the holiday announcement with all institutions to avoid confusion among students and parents.
The holiday has been declared in connection with Chehlum, a significant religious observance marked across Pakistan. Every year, provincial governments announce holidays and implement special arrangements, including traffic and security measures, to facilitate religious gatherings and processions.

Parents and students are advised to stay updated through their respective schools and official government channels for any further instructions regarding academic schedules or examinations. Educational activities are expected to resume according to the regular timetable after the holiday unless another official announcement is issued.
The latest notification provides clarity for thousands of families across Sindh who were awaiting confirmation of the school holiday. It also allows schools to make necessary administrative arrangements in advance.
With this announcement, all government and private educational institutions across Sindh will remain closed for the observance of Chehlum, ensuring uniform implementation of the provincial government’s decision.
