The Punjab Government has announced an extension of summer vacations for all non-formal schools across the province due to the ongoing hot and humid weather. The decision was taken to protect students, teachers, and school staff from extreme temperatures that continue to affect many districts.
According to an official notification issued by the Directorate General of Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education, the extended holidays will apply to all Non-Formal Basic Education Schools (NFBES), Non-Formal Elementary Education Schools (NFEES), and schools operating under the GPE Taleem Programme.

Education officials said the move was made after reviewing the current weather conditions and the challenges faced by students, especially in areas where classrooms have limited cooling facilities. High temperatures and humidity have increased the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke, making it difficult for children to attend classes safely.
Under the revised schedule, non-formal schools will remain closed until July 11 and are expected to reopen on July 13, provided weather conditions remain suitable. The Directorate General of Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education has instructed all District Education Officers (Literacy) to ensure the decision is implemented across Punjab without exception.

The latest announcement applies only to non-formal education institutions. Any decision regarding the reopening of government or private formal schools will be announced separately by the School Education Department Punjab if required.
Parents and students have been advised to stay updated through official government notifications instead of relying on unverified information circulating on social media. Authorities have also urged families to take necessary precautions during the ongoing heatwave by staying hydrated, avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, and following weather advisories issued by relevant departments.
The extension reflects the Punjab government’s continued focus on student safety during extreme weather conditions. Officials say protecting children’s health remains the top priority while educational activities will resume once conditions become more favorable.
