Government College University (GCU) Lahore has introduced its first-ever institutional summer internship program, offering more than 100 on-campus internship opportunities for undergraduate students from across Pakistan. The initiative aims to help students gain practical experience while working in a professional university environment.
According to the university, GCU Lahore is the first public-sector university in Pakistan to launch a large-scale internship framework specifically for BS students. The program has been designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical workplace skills.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry said the internship will allow students to participate in the university’s research, governance, academic, and administrative operations. He added that the program will also help students meet the mandatory internship requirement under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Undergraduate Education Policy 2023.
The internship will run for six to eight weeks during the summer break. Selected students will work five days a week at either the GCU Main Campus or the Kala Shah Kaku Campus, depending on their assigned department.
Interns will receive hands-on exposure in several professional fields, including academic research, strategic planning, financial management, information technology (IT), quality assurance, innovation, and university administration. The experience is expected to strengthen students’ professional, technical, and communication skills before they enter the job market.
The opportunity is open to undergraduate students studying at GCU Lahore as well as other HEC-recognized universities. Applicants must have completed at least the fourth semester of their BS program with satisfactory academic performance. Students awaiting their fourth-semester results are also eligible to apply.

Education experts believe such internship programs play an important role in improving graduate employability by giving students real-world experience before graduation. The initiative is also expected to encourage stronger collaboration between higher education institutions and future employers.
