The Sindh government has approved the recruitment of more than 8,000 Junior Science Teachers (JSTs) in a major step to strengthen the education sector and address the shortage of teaching staff in public schools. The decision is expected to create thousands of employment opportunities for qualified candidates across the province.
The approval was granted during a meeting of the Sindh Assembly’s Special Committee on Recruitment, where officials reviewed the ongoing hiring process for government schools. The committee decided that candidates who secured 55 or more marks in the IBA Sukkur recruitment test will be eligible for appointment under the merit-based recruitment policy.
The committee also confirmed that the minimum qualifying score of 55 marks will remain unchanged for Early Childhood Teacher (ECT) recruitment. Officials said maintaining the same passing criteria would ensure transparency and equal opportunities for all applicants.
To speed up the recruitment process, the committee directed the relevant authorities to issue offer letters to successful ECT candidates within the next 15 days. It also instructed departments to conduct recruitment tests for the remaining vacant teaching positions as soon as possible to reduce the shortage of teachers in government schools.
The upcoming hiring drive will benefit candidates from different districts of Sindh, where hundreds of schools have been facing a shortage of qualified science teachers. Education officials believe that filling these vacancies will improve classroom learning, particularly in science and mathematics subjects, and help raise educational standards.
The recruitment process will continue under a merit-based selection system, with appointments based on candidates’ performance in the IBA Sukkur test. Officials have reiterated that transparency and fairness will remain the top priorities throughout the recruitment process.
Education experts have welcomed the announcement, saying the recruitment of thousands of teachers is a positive step toward improving the quality of education in public schools. They believe that appointing qualified teachers will help reduce student-teacher ratios and provide better learning opportunities for students across the province.
Candidates who have already qualified in the recruitment test are advised to regularly check official announcements from the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department for updates regarding offer letters, appointment schedules, document verification, and joining procedures. Authorities are expected to release further recruitment details as the hiring process moves forward.
