The Sindh Education Department has taken action against all three campuses of a private school in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi, after receiving multiple complaints from parents regarding unapproved tuition fees, illegal annual charges, and the denial of mandatory fee concessions.
The action was initiated by the Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions, Sindh, which issued formal notices to the school management. Officials said the complaints were investigated before the notices were served.
According to the education authorities, the school allegedly charged tuition fees higher than the amount approved by the registration authority. It was also accused of collecting annual fees in violation of existing regulations and failing to provide fee concessions to at least 10% of eligible students, as required under provincial law.
The Directorate has directed the school to immediately stop collecting unauthorized fees and refund the excess amount collected from parents within 15 days. It also instructed the management to grant fee waivers to deserving students in line with legal requirements.
Officials warned that failure to comply with these instructions could result in strict legal action under the Sindh Private Educational Institutions (Regulation and Control) Ordinance. Possible penalties include the suspension or cancellation of the school’s registration.
The education department further revealed that the school had previously received show-cause notices over similar complaints. However, the management allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or documentary evidence to justify the collection of higher tuition and annual fees during the official hearing.
Authorities have advised parents to report any unauthorized fee increases or violations through the relevant education department channels. They reiterated that all registered private schools are required to follow government-approved fee structures and ensure that students entitled to concessions receive the benefits guaranteed under the law.
The latest action reflects the Sindh government’s ongoing efforts to improve transparency and accountability in private educational institutions. Officials said inspections and monitoring of private schools will continue to ensure compliance with education regulations and protect the rights of students and parents.
