Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated the Indus Robotics and Autonomous Systems Expo in Islamabad, highlighting Pakistan’s ambition to become a leading country in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and advanced technologies.
Addressing the ceremony, the prime minister said robotics and autonomous systems are rapidly changing the world and can play a major role in improving important sectors of Pakistan’s economy, including agriculture, healthcare, disaster management, and industry.
He said modern robotic technologies can help farmers monitor crop health, reduce water wastage, improve fertilizer use, and increase agricultural productivity. According to him, these solutions are especially important as Pakistan faces growing challenges from climate change and water shortages.
The prime minister also emphasized the role of autonomous systems in emergency response operations. He said robotics and smart technologies can help rescue teams reach affected areas faster and provide better support during natural disasters.
Highlighting Pakistan’s progress in indigenous defence and technology development, Shehbaz Sharif said the country has made significant advancements in producing modern systems locally. He praised Pakistani scientists, engineers, researchers, and technology experts for strengthening national capabilities.
He also highlighted progress in drone technology, saying locally developed systems are becoming increasingly important for Pakistan’s security and technological growth. The prime minister stressed that future development depends on promoting local research, innovation, and collaboration between universities, startups, industries, and government institutions.

During the event, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the Spark and Elevate Programme, aimed at transforming research projects into commercially successful technologies, businesses, and employment opportunities.
He also announced the Pakistan Venture Fund with an initial investment of $20 million to support technology startups and encourage investment in emerging sectors. The initiative is expected to provide opportunities for young innovators and entrepreneurs working in AI, robotics, and digital technologies.
The prime minister called for the creation of strong regulatory and ethical frameworks to ensure that artificial intelligence and autonomous technologies are developed responsibly. He said innovation should remain safe, transparent, and beneficial for society.
Shehbaz Sharif urged universities, startups, farmers, women entrepreneurs, and young professionals to participate in Pakistan’s technology transformation. He said robotics and AI should not remain limited to research institutions but should create practical benefits for ordinary citizens and businesses.
The Indus Robotics and Autonomous Systems Expo reflects Pakistan’s growing focus on emerging technologies and its efforts to build a modern innovation ecosystem capable of competing in the global digital economy.
