Lahore’s government high and higher secondary schools are working to increase student admissions after falling slightly behind the enrollment target set by the Lahore Education Authority (LEA). Education officials have directed schools to speed up the ongoing admission campaign to ensure more children are enrolled before the deadline.
According to education authorities, government schools were assigned a target of enrolling 393,000 students, but current enrollment has reached around 390,000, leaving a small gap that schools are now expected to bridge. The overall enrollment target for the academic year remains 430,000 students.
To improve admission numbers, the School Education Department Punjab has instructed headteachers to admit at least 10 additional students in every school. Officials believe this strategy will help institutions collectively achieve the province’s enrollment goals.
Schools have also been directed to conduct door-to-door enrollment campaigns in nearby communities. Teachers and school staff are visiting homes to identify out-of-school children, encourage parents to enroll them, and highlight the benefits of receiving a free education in government institutions.

Education officials say the campaign is part of Punjab’s broader efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children, improve literacy, and ensure that every child has access to quality education. Government schools continue to offer free textbooks, qualified teaching staff, and improved learning facilities to attract more students.
The Lahore Education Authority has warned that school administrations will be held accountable for meeting their assigned admission targets. Headteachers who fail to make sufficient progress may face administrative action under departmental rules.
Officials have urged parents to complete admissions as early as possible so children can begin classes without delay. They added that increasing enrollment in government schools remains a key priority for the Punjab government, which continues to introduce reforms aimed at improving the public education system.
The admission campaign will continue across Lahore until the enrollment targets are achieved, with education officials regularly monitoring the progress of each government school.
