167 Private Schools Sealed Across Punjab Over Rule Violations

Punjab has sealed 167 private schools and academies after a province-wide safety inspection found their buildings to be structurally unsafe. The operation was carried out by the School Education Department in coordination with the Buildings Department to protect students and staff.

The inspection campaign was launched following the tragic roof collapse at a tuition academy in Lahore’s Kahna area, which raised serious concerns about the condition of aging educational buildings. Authorities focused on schools with old structures, damaged roofs, and water seepage, especially ahead of the monsoon season.

Officials said the sealed institutions were found to pose an immediate risk to student safety. These schools will remain closed until all necessary repair, renovation, or reconstruction work is completed and certified by the relevant authorities.

In addition to the closures, around 744 private schools and academies have received red notices over comparatively minor structural defects. The institutions have been directed to complete repairs before reopening after the summer vacations.

The Punjab government has warned that schools failing to begin repair work within the given timeframe could also face sealing orders. Education authorities have instructed school owners to strictly follow building safety standards to ensure a secure learning environment.

Officials emphasized that student safety remains the government’s top priority. They added that inspections will continue across the province, and educational institutions that fail to comply with safety regulations may face further legal and administrative action.

Parents have also been advised to ensure that the schools their children attend meet basic structural safety requirements. Authorities said the ongoing inspection campaign aims to prevent accidents and improve safety standards in private educational institutions across Punjab.
