The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Elementary and Secondary Education Department has established a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Institute to accelerate the use of modern technology across the province’s education system.
The initiative is designed to support AI-based solutions, digital applications and technology-driven reforms. Officials expect the institute to help improve efficiency, transparency and service delivery within the education department.
A seven-member technical team has been formed to develop the necessary frameworks and guidelines for the institute. The team will also examine existing departmental systems and identify areas where manual procedures can be replaced with digital processes.
The institute will focus on developing and introducing modern digital tools for education-related services. These systems could help improve record management, administrative processes and access to information for schools, teachers and students.
The move is part of the KP government’s wider digital transformation strategy. The provincial education sector has increasingly been exploring technology-based solutions, including virtual learning and digital platforms.
Earlier initiatives have also focused on expanding access to education through online and virtual classes, particularly for students in areas where traditional educational facilities are limited.
The establishment of the AI and Digital Institute could provide a dedicated platform for testing and implementing artificial intelligence in education. It may also help the department identify practical uses of AI while developing appropriate technical standards and guidelines.
For students and teachers, the long-term goal is to make education services more accessible, transparent and technology-driven. The institute’s work is expected to contribute to the broader digitalisation of KP’s public education system.
