The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has recommended extending school closures in flood-affected areas as heavy monsoon rains continue to create challenges across several districts of the province.
According to officials, the authority has advised the School Education Department Punjab not to reopen schools in areas where floodwater has not yet receded and where conditions remain unsafe for students and staff.
The recommendation comes after reports of damage to educational institutions, government buildings, roads, and other public infrastructure in flood-hit areas. Authorities believe that reopening schools before normal conditions return could put the safety of students and teachers at risk.
The PDMA Punjab has also suggested conducting a detailed assessment of damaged schools to determine the cost of repair and restoration work. The Communication and Works (C&W) Department may carry out surveys of affected buildings and prepare reports regarding their condition.

Officials said the final decision regarding the extension of school holidays will be taken by the Punjab School Education Department after reviewing the flood situation and recommendations from relevant departments.
The authority has emphasized that student safety remains the top priority during the ongoing monsoon season. Schools located in areas with standing floodwater, damaged buildings, or transportation issues are likely to remain closed until safety measures are completed.
Punjab has faced several challenges during the monsoon season, with heavy rainfall affecting normal life in different regions. Disaster management teams, district administrations, and rescue departments are continuing relief and monitoring operations in vulnerable areas.
Parents and students have been advised to follow official announcements from the education department regarding school reopening schedules. Authorities have urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified information about school closures and rely on official updates.
The government is also focusing on the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure so that educational activities can resume smoothly once conditions improve.
