Punjab Boards Introduce New Practical Exam Marking Policy for 2026 Students

The Punjab Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) have introduced a new marking policy for Intermediate Part-II practical examinations, significantly changing how practical papers will be evaluated. The revised system aims to make the assessment process more transparent, uniform, and merit-based across all Punjab boards.

According to the latest update, the new policy will be implemented for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Statistics practical examinations. Under the revised method, the written answer sheet completed during the practical exam will no longer be checked by the practical examiner at the examination centre.

Instead, the written portion of every practical paper will be sent to the respective BISE for centralized marking, following the same evaluation process used for theory papers. Education officials believe this step will ensure greater fairness and consistency in awarding marks.

Students will still be assessed at their examination centres for their practical performance, laboratory skills, practical notebook (journal), and viva voce (oral examination). This means candidates must prepare thoroughly for every part of the practical exam rather than focusing only on laboratory work.

The updated marking policy is expected to reduce differences in marking standards among examination centres. By shifting the written component to centralized checking, Punjab boards aim to improve accuracy, transparency, and equal treatment for all candidates.

Students appearing in the 2026 Intermediate Part-II practical examinations are advised to pay equal attention to their written practical answers, lab experiments, practical notebooks, and viva preparation. Strong performance in all four areas will be essential for securing higher marks under the new evaluation system.

Punjab’s education boards have been introducing several reforms in recent years to strengthen the examination process, improve quality assurance, and promote a fair and standardized assessment system. The latest practical exam policy is another step toward ensuring that every student is evaluated on the same criteria, regardless of their examination centre.
