The Punjab government has launched a Rs. 34 billion workforce development project aimed at transforming technical and vocational education across the province. The initiative will introduce a modern training system based on the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), helping students gain skills that meet international employment standards.

Under the new program, 19 Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) institutes will be upgraded into Centers of Excellence by 2029. The project is expected to provide internationally recognized technical training to around 90,000 young people, improving their chances of securing jobs in Pakistan and overseas.
According to official details, the training will focus on eight high-growth industrial sectors, including manufacturing, engineering, information technology, construction, renewable energy, hospitality, healthcare, and modern industrial services. The curriculum will be aligned with the changing needs of employers and the global labor market.
The initiative also places special emphasis on women’s participation in technical and industrial fields. By expanding access to modern skills training, the government aims to increase female employment and encourage greater involvement in emerging technologies.
The project will be implemented by TEVTA Punjab, with the provincial government allocating up to Rs. 10 billion during the current fiscal year to begin infrastructure upgrades, equipment modernization, and instructor training. Selected institutes will receive advanced laboratories, updated workshops, and industry-focused learning facilities.
Officials said that an online registration portal will be introduced, allowing eligible candidates to apply for different technical courses once admissions are announced. The digital system is expected to make the application process more transparent and accessible.
The workforce readiness project is part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to promote youth employment, skills development, and overseas job opportunities. By adopting internationally recognized qualification standards, authorities hope to produce a workforce that is better prepared for both local industries and competitive global markets.
